By Israel Adamu, Jos

Former Acting President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Prince Miaphen, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of eight University of Jos (UNIJOS) students in a road accident on Thursday.

In a statement made available to newsmen, Comrade Miaphen said, “I extend my deepest condolences to the community of the University of Jos over this tragic incident.”

He explained that the students were returning to their hostels after attending a “Welcome Back to School Party” for returning students when the accident occurred.

Comrade Miaphen confirmed that among the deceased were the President of the National Association of Plateau State Students (NAPSS), UNIJOS Chapter, several members of his executive committee, and other faculty presidents.

Describing the loss as devastating, he added, “These vibrant, promising young leaders, full of dreams and destined for greatness, met their untimely deaths at the prime of their aspirations.”

He also offered prayers for the two survivors who are currently receiving medical treatment, saying, “May God grant them a swift and complete recovery.”

To the bereaved families, friends, colleagues, and the wider student community, Comrade Miaphen extended his heartfelt sympathy. “May you find strength in this moment of deep sorrow,” he said.

This tragic incident has sent shockwaves across UNIJOS and the Plateau State student community, highlighting the need for enhanced road safety measures for students traveling to and from campus events.
