Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, Former Speaker of the House of Representatives in the 8th National Assembly, undertook a historic tour of the Mambilla Plateau, accompanied by his wife and a distinguished delegation. The visit was coordinated by the Secretary to the Government of Taraba State, Chief Barr. G. T. Kataps (Ngwii Mambilla), and joined by the Executive Chairman of Sardauna Local Government, Hon. M. J. Umar. The team explored key sites, including the Bang–Tamnya border area linking Nigeria to Cameroon, where Dogara was warmly received by the local community.
In his remarks, Dogara expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended to him and commended the natural beauty of the Plateau. He praised Governor Agbu Kefas for his leadership in maintaining peace and security across Taraba State, noting that the calm atmosphere has created an enabling environment for growth. He emphasized that the visit had broadened his appreciation of the Plateau’s vast potential, highlighting its mineral resources, fertile land, and favorable climate as assets that, if harnessed, could contribute significantly to national food security. He further lauded the peaceful coexistence among the diverse communities of the Plateau, describing it as a model of unity for Nigeria.
Dogara also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the improvement in the security situation across the entire North East. He noted that it is the faith people have in the President’s efforts that accounted for the historic number of citizens who travelled home to the region for end-of-year celebrations, a development he described as a testament to renewed confidence in government.
The Acting Mbondua of Mbamnga, Alh. Abubakar Sale Ndula, speaking on behalf of the community, expressed delight at hosting the former Speaker. He recalled following Dogara’s public service through newspapers and television, and described the physical visit as a moment of pride for the Chiefdom. He also conveyed the community’s appreciation to President Tinubu for awarding the Gembu–Mbamnga–Yang–Lip Road project, stressing that the people of Sardauna Local Government remain deeply grateful for this transformative initiative.
Hon. M. J. Umar, Chairman of Sardauna Local Government, described the visit as an honor during his tenure. He commended Dogara as a leader whose contributions have positively impacted Nigerians across the country and wished him continued success in his endeavors. The tour was further enriched by the presentation of the Kam-Kam, a traditional bag, to Dogara and his wife, symbolizing the Plateau’s rich cultural heritage and the enduring bond between its people and their guests.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Hon. Abdulazeez Suleiman Titong, Member representing Gembu Constituency; Hon. Nelson C. Len, Member representing Nguroje Constituency; and Hon. Gideon Nonso Mbaso, Commissioner of Digital Economy and Innovation, Taraba State, among others.
