Taraba: We have being denied chairmanship position for 23 years-caretaker chair laments

Danzumi Ishaku Jalingo

Newly appointed caretaker chairman for Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba state Mr John Danladi said Ndola people had been denied the position of the council chairman for Kurmi in Taraba state for the past 23 years.

Danladi gave the hint on Sunday while speaking to newsmen in Jalingo.

Mr John commended Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba for breaking the jinx by appointing a son of Ndola as caretaker chairman to pilot the affairs of the council in the next three months.

He promised to work hard using his wealth of experience as a civil servant with local government for 29 years to turn-around the area council.

“I want to inform you that since the creation of Kurmi local government in 23 years ago, Ndola people have not held the position of chairman for the council.
“The local government area has three ethnic groups which from inception agreed to rotate critical political positions within them.

“Ndola as one of the ethnic groups had been denied the local government council for 23 years of the council’s existence.

“We thank Governor Darius Ishaku “Taa Ndola” for breaking the jinx by appointing me, a Ndola son to pertake in his rescue mission.

” With this, I have promised both the governor and my people that I will use my wealth of experience as a treasurer who have served the civil service for 29 years to move Kurmi forward.

” I will equally appeal to both the youths and elders from Kurmi to give peace a chance and shun all forms of unwholesome behaviours that could hinder Gov. Ishaku-led administration to move Kurmi and the entire state forward,’ Danladi appealed.

Our correspondent recalls that Kurmi local government was created in 1996 in Taraba with three ethnic groups; Ichen, Tigun and Ndola gazetted as ethnic nationalities in the area.

The key political positions that had been agreed upon by the groups to be shared and rotated among them includes; local government chairman, House Assembly Membership and a slot for commissionership from the area.
