Langtang North Chairman Pirfa Tyem Empowers 160 Schools With Instructional Materials

By Israel Adamu, Jos

The Executive Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Area, Hon. Pirfa Tyem, has approved the distribution of instructional learning materials to 160 schools across the council area as part of efforts to strengthen basic education. The intervention coincides with the resumption of schools for the new academic term. The empowerment initiative covers 142 public primary schools, with a few private schools also benefiting. It reflects the chairman’s renewed commitment to improving teaching and learning outcomes at the grassroots level. The instructional materials distributed include 160 units each of number charts, weather charts, shapes, and other essential teaching aids. The items are designed to enhance classroom engagement and make lessons more interactive for pupils.

Presenting the materials on behalf of the chairman, the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman, Hon. Shalkur Haruna Mamdam, said the intervention was informed by gaps observed in the availability of teaching aids in public schools across the local government.According to him, many pupils lack access to basic instructional materials that support effective learning. “We noticed that some of these teaching needs are not readily available for pupils. The idea is to bring instructional materials directly into classrooms so children can see, touch, and experience learning firsthand, similar to what is obtainable in many private schools,” he said.Hon. Shalkur noted that the distribution fulfilled a promise made by Hon. Pirfa Tyem to the people of Langtang North. He stressed that the administration remains guided by the principle of accountability and service delivery.“ We are here to deliver on a promise. Promise made, promise kept is the conviction that drives this administration. Although we intended to distribute these materials before school resumption, doing so at this point remains timely and impactful,” he added.

Receiving the materials, the Education Secretary of the Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), Mrs. Tabitha Wazhi, commended the chairman for prioritising education and consistently supporting the welfare of education staff in the area. She described the intervention as a major boost to classroom teaching and learning. “This administration has shown uncommon commitment to the education sector, both in staff welfare and in making learning easier for pupils at the grassroots. These materials will significantly improve classroom delivery,” she said.

School heads and teachers across the local government also expressed appreciation for the gesture. A classroom teacher, Changcit Selchak, and a headmistress from a school in Zamko, Changcit Selchum, described the intervention as timely and long overdue.According to them, the materials will help pupils better understand lessons and improve overall learning outcomes. They also praised the chairman for visible improvements in the education sector, including infrastructure development. The distribution of instructional materials adds to a growing list of education-focused initiatives under Hon. Pirfa Tyem’s administration. Stakeholders say the move reinforces the council’s people-centred approach and its belief that quality education remains the foundation for sustainable development in Langtang North Local Government Area.
