Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has approved a one-month extension of the state’s free electric bus service, pushing the end date to February 28.
The governor disclosed this during a media chat on Wednesday, explaining that the decision was taken to allow more residents benefit from the initiative before paid operations begin.
The electric bus project, which was launched in December 2025, is designed to provide free transportation for Abia residents along selected routes within the state. The service was initially scheduled to run until January 31, 2026.
With the extension, the free rides will now continue through the end of February, while commercial operations are expected to commence from March 1, 2026.
The initiative forms part of the Otti administration’s efforts to ease transportation costs for residents and promote cleaner, more sustainable urban mobility in the state.
