UPTH Seeks Closer Collaboration with EFCC on Security and Accountability

The University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) has called for stronger collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to enhance security, accountability and institutional support. This followed a courtesy visit by the Chief Medical Director of UPTH, Prof. Chituru Godwill Orluwene, to the EFCC’s Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate.

According to a statement by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, Orluwene said closer cooperation between both institutions would help them respond more effectively to potential security and administrative challenges. He noted that a large public hospital interacts daily with people of diverse backgrounds and could encounter security or misconduct issues involving staff, patients or visitors.“

In such circumstances, we need our sister agencies. We should build a friendly relationship so we can support one another when the need arises,” he said. Responding, the Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC in Port Harcourt, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I) Hassan Saidu, welcomed the initiative and described inter-agency cooperation as vital for national stability.

He said every public institution plays a role in strengthening the country’s systems, adding that while the hospital safeguards public health, the EFCC works to protect the integrity of public systems. Both parties expressed readiness to maintain regular engagement and information sharing within the law.
