NSCDC Launches Gender Policy II to Promote Inclusive Security Operations

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has launched its Gender Policy II, reaffirming its commitment to inclusive, professional, and people-centred security delivery across the country. The policy was unveiled in Abuja by the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, who said inclusivity is essential to building a stronger, more effective, and trusted security institution.

Representing the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Audi noted that the new policy aligns the Corps with global best practices and Nigeria’s national security objectives. He said the framework is designed to strengthen institutional capacity, enhance operational effectiveness, and guide personnel to carry out their duties with dignity, care, and respect for human rights.

According to the NSCDC, the policy also supports Nigeria’s commitments under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security.

A press release signed by the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, ACC Babawale Afolabi, stated that the launch event was supported by UKFCDO and SPRING. It attracted senior government officials, security stakeholders, development partners, and civil society organisations.

Speakers at the event emphasised that inclusive security practices improve accountability, protect vulnerable groups, and enhance public trust in security institutions.

The NSCDC said the introduction of Gender Policy II marks a significant milestone in its efforts to institutionalise inclusivity, equity, and professionalism across its operations nationwide.
