The Kogi State Government has ordered the temporary closure of selected markets and motor parks across parts of Kogi West Senatorial District to support ongoing security operations against criminal elements.
The directive was announced on Sunday in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Femi Fanwo. He said the measure is part of intensified and coordinated security efforts involving the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and security agencies in the state.
According to the government, the temporary shutdown is aimed at cutting off logistics, restricting the movement of consumables, and denying criminal groups and their collaborators access to food supplies and other forms of support during the operations.
The closure affects selected communities across seven local government areas: Lokoja, Kabba-Bunu, Yagba West, Yagba East, Kogi, Mopamuro, and Ijumu. Impacted locations include major community markets and motor parks in towns such as Oshokoshoko, Obajana, Ike Bunu, Ejiba, Oke Ere, Koton Karfe, Takete Ide Amuro, and Iyah Gbedde, among others. The government stressed that the action is strictly temporary and will be lifted immediately after the conclusion of the security exercise.
Residents were urged to cooperate with security agencies and comply with the directive in the interest of public safety and the success of the operations.
