Contempt: Court orders arrest of Asekun, revokes Richard’s bail

By Ogenyi Ogenyi

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the immediate arrest of Funke Asekun and revoked Ayotunde Richard’s bail for publicly scandalizing the court on social media, while the matter is still pending.

The case involved a criminal defamation complaint filed by Dr. Daniel Olukoya, General Overseer of MFM Church, against Ayotunde Richard .

Justice A. Lewis-Allagoa, who is handling the case, made the ruling after the police prosecutor, Mr. Nosa Uhumwangho, brought the scandalous social media post to the court’s attention.

The judge noted that Ayotunde Richard admitted in his affidavit that the post by Funke Asekun does not accurately represent court proceedings and that she tagged him in the story.

Ayotunde Richard is facing charges of cyberstalking, libel, and defamation, related to social media posts about Dr. Olukoya.

He was initially remanded in prison custody pending a bail application hearing.
