The Delta State Government, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Chevron Nigeria Limited have renewed efforts to collaborate on the proposed Omadino–Okerenkoko–Escravos Road and Bridges project aimed at improving access to riverine communities in the state. The road project, estimated to cover about 70 kilometres with 29 bridges, is expected to enhance transportation and stimulate economic activities across parts of the Niger Delta.

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori gave the assurance of the state government’s support during a meeting with the NDDC leadership and a delegation from Chevron Nigeria Limited at Government House, Asaba. The governor said the project was critical to opening up riverine communities for development but stressed that it must be handled by a reputable construction company capable of completing the work.

Oborevwori added that the state government would establish a technical team to work with NDDC and Chevron to review the project design, determine the current cost and define the contributions of each stakeholder.

Earlier, NDDC Managing Director Dr. Sam Ogbuku said the commission and Chevron visited Delta State to brief the governor on progress made toward reviving the project, which was originally awarded several years ago but remained incomplete.

According to him, the commission is exploring partnerships to deliver the project in line with efforts to complete abandoned infrastructure across the Niger Delta.Chevron Nigeria Limited also expressed readiness to collaborate with the NDDC and the Delta State Government to support the project.

Stakeholders agreed to set up a joint technical committee to review the project design, validate costs and conduct environmental and geotechnical assessments ahead of signing a Memorandum of Understanding for its execution.
