The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has commenced construction of a new 330kV Turn-In Turn-Out transmission line at the Ihovbor Work Centre in Edo State as part of efforts to strengthen electricity transmission on the national grid. In a statement from its Benin Region office, TCN said the project involves the stringing of the Ihovbor–Ajaokuta 330kV transmission line to improve the evacuation of power from major generation plants.The project began on February 27, 2026, and is scheduled for completion by March 30, 2026.
According to TCN, the development will increase the company’s capacity to transmit electricity generated by the Azura Power Plant and the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) plant to substations across the country. The company said the new infrastructure will also strengthen transmission channels, provide additional capacity, and improve the reliability of bulk electricity supply on the national grid.
Upon completion, the two transmission lines are expected to enhance the operational capacity of the Ihovbor Transmission Substation and support more efficient power distribution. TCN said the project forms part of its ongoing efforts to expand the national transmission network and improve power wheeling capacity to ensure more stable electricity supply across Nigeria.
