Group Urges Government to Prioritise Needs of Women with Disabilities

The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities in Nigeria (JONAPWD) has called on the Federal Government and other stakeholders to prioritise the needs of women with disabilities through improved access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Solomon Yahaya, the association emphasised the importance of inclusivity and equal participation, noting that women with disabilities continue to face significant barriers despite their contributions to society. The group acknowledged the resilience of women with disabilities, highlighting their achievements across various sectors, and urged sustained efforts to remove structural and social obstacles.

JONAPWD also commended initiatives aimed at supporting women, including programmes led by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, which it said promote inclusion and empowerment. The association encouraged women, particularly those with disabilities, to actively participate in civic and political processes ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that their voices are vital in shaping national development.

It further urged women with disabilities to remain confident in their abilities and continue contributing to their communities and the country.
