A farmer has been killed in Oko-Dudu area of Egume community, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, following an alleged clash involving a cattle herder, prompting a security response.
Local sources identified the deceased as Eikwu Sule, said to be from the Adumu axis of the community. Witnesses reported that the incident occurred on the victim’s farm during a confrontation, though details of the altercation remain under investigation. According to residents, some herders in the area have since left the community amid fears of possible reprisals.
Security agencies, including the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, have begun efforts to locate the suspect and restore calm in the area. The traditional ruler of Egume, Chief Simon Ochimana, appealed for restraint, urging residents not to take the law into their own hands. “This incident is unfortunate, but we must allow security agencies to conduct a proper investigation,” he said.
Similarly, the Egume-Ome Descendants Union condemned the killing and called on authorities to ensure those responsible are brought to justice. Community leaders also urged youths to remain peaceful as investigations continue.
