Plateau Youths Protest Insecurity, Demand Urgent Government Action

Youths in Plateau State staged a protest at the Government House in Jos, calling for urgent action to address rising insecurity and recent attacks in rural communities. The demonstrators, under the Coalition of Northern Zone Ethnic Nationalities and the Plateau Youth Coalition, gathered late in the evening, expressing concern over reported killings and attacks affecting residents and security personnel.

President of the Plateau Youth Coalition, Ezekiel Peter Bini, said the protest followed reports that about 14 security operatives were killed in an ambush in Kanam Local Government Area. He also cited additional reports of two deaths in Rim. “We are concerned about the safety of both civilians and security personnel,” Bini said, urging authorities to strengthen security measures.

Also speaking, Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, who leads the Berom Youth Movement, said the attacks cut across communities and called for coordinated responses involving government and security agencies. The group urged Governor Caleb Mutfwang to convey their demands to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for immediate intervention.

Ngo Esther Banga highlighted the impact on women and children, calling for improved protection and restoration of normal life. Officials of the state government were not present at the time of the protest. The demonstrators later dispersed peacefully and said they would return to continue engagement with authorities.
