Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has attributed the ongoing provision and improvement of infrastructure in the education sector to the unflinching support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Wike made this known on Wednesday after inspecting ongoing and completed projects in Bwari Area Council, including facilities at the Nigerian Law School.
He said the visible progress across key projects was largely driven by the president’s commitment to delivering critical infrastructure, particularly in the education sector, to improve the quality of learning.
“The momentum we are witnessing today is largely due to the unwavering support of Mr. President, who believes strongly in the need to provide basic infrastructure, particularly in the education sector,” Wike stated.
The minister stressed that working under supportive leadership leaves no room for excuses or failure, adding that even with limited resources, the administration prioritizes projects that are critical to national development.
According to him, beyond receiving support, government officials must demonstrate commitment and ensure effective delivery of projects.
Speaking on the level of work done, Wike expressed satisfaction with the quality and progress of several projects inspected.
He noted that ongoing bridge construction in the area was nearing completion, with contractors assuring delivery within the next five months.
He also confirmed that the M5 project handled by Julius Berger has been completed and is among projects slated for inauguration during the President’s third anniversary in office.
At the Nigerian Law School, Wike disclosed that 10 residential bungalows for teachers and staff have been completed and fully furnished, added that two hostels—male and female—are also under construction.
While commending the contractor handling the female hostel for a job well done, the minister expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of work on the male hostel, despite both projects being awarded simultaneously.
“I am quite impressed with the female hostel, but the pace of work on the male hostel is not satisfactory. However, the contractors have assured us that both projects will be delivered between October and November,” he said.
He described the intervention at the law school as a significant milestone, adding that it was the first effort by the government to provide basic infrastructure for the institution.
He further revealed that plans are underway for the construction of an auditorium within the school, with contractors expected to mobilize to the site soon.
The minister expressed optimism that the provision of accommodation would address longstanding challenges faced by students and boost enrollment.
Speaking on funding, Wike emphasized that commitment and prudent management of resources are more critical.
“It is not simply about the amount of money available; it is about commitment. Through our internally generated revenue, we ensure that funds are carefully directed towards viable projects,” he said.
Furthermore, on political developments within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Wike maintained that there is only one recognised party structure, dismissing claims of factional divisions.
He noted that while dissatisfaction among some members is natural in politics, it does not necessarily imply disunity, adding that party processes, including conventions and reconciliation efforts, can run concurrently.
He reiterated the administration’s commitment to sustaining the pace of development that is hinged on leadership support, accountability, and efficient project execution.
