Stakeholders from creek communities in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have declared support for Governor and his deputy, , while appealing for the micro-zoning of the area’s National Assembly seat ahead of the 2027 elections.
The appeal was made during an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting held in on March 31, 2026.
Representatives from Ward 6, Ward 11 and Ward 12, covering several creek communities, said their demand was driven by what they described as years of marginalisation in political representation.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the stakeholders noted that since the return of democracy, no individual from the affected wards in Sagbama Constituency II has been elected into the House of Representatives or the Senate.
They pointed out that even when the Senate seat was previously zoned to the constituency, it was occupied by from Ward 10, leaving the creek communities without representation.
The group urged Governor Diri to consider micro-zoning the National Assembly slot allocated to Sagbama Local Government Area to the creek axis in the interest of equity and fairness. They also called for the emergence of a credible candidate from the affected wards, particularly on the platform of the (APC).
The stakeholders resolved to support qualified candidates from the three wards for either the House of Representatives or Senate positions in the 2027 general elections.
They also passed a vote of confidence on Diri and his deputy, commending their leadership and developmental strides across the state.
The stakeholders pledged continued loyalty and support to the administration, describing the move as part of efforts to ensure inclusive representation in Sagbama politics as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
