Northern states have been advised to adopt Kaduna State’s approach to education development, focusing on investment, infrastructure, and inclusive policies.
Kaduna State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abubakar Sani Sambo, made the call while delivering a lecture at the combined convocation of Sa’adu Zungur University in Bauchi State. The lecture, titled “Education, Security and Sustainable Development: The Role of Universities in Northern Nigeria,” highlighted the role of education in regional stability and growth.
According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kaduna State Governor, Sambo said recent reforms in Kaduna have prioritised access to education, teacher development, and infrastructure expansion. He stated that the state government has returned over 300,000 out-of-school children to classrooms and implemented inclusive policies targeting girls, children with disabilities, and conflict-affected learners. Sambo also noted that more than 60 secondary schools have been built, alongside over 2,300 new primary school classrooms, with additional renovations across the state.
He added that over 33,000 teachers and education officers have received training, contributing to an increase in student performance in the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination.The commissioner further highlighted investments in technical and vocational education, including the establishment of training centres aimed at producing skilled artisans annually.
