Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has cautioned Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, against reigniting political tensions through media comments, stressing that the 2023 governorship contest is now in the past.
It would be recalled that Governor Oborevwori, at a recent lecture in Lagos titled “Inclusive Governance and National Unity: Lessons from Delta State for a United Nigeria,” reportedly mocked Omo-Agege’s performance in the 2023 election.
He noted that he defeated the former senator despite his perceived advantages in structure and resources.
Reacting, Omo-Agege called for restraint, saying revisiting the election outcome in public discourse serves no meaningful purpose.
He emphasised the need for peace, healing, and reconciliation within the party.
“My attention has been drawn to the governor’s comments referencing the 2023 Delta State governorship election.
“If we were still in different political parties, I would respond as an adversary. But that is no longer the case—we are now one family under the All Progressives Congress (APC),” he said.
He stressed that unity within the APC is crucial, adding that internal divisions could weaken the party’s chances in future elections.
Omo-Agege acknowledged the finality of the Supreme Court’s ruling on the election and reiterated his respect for the outcome.
He also congratulated the governor again on his victory, which he said was secured with over 360,000 votes across 21 local government areas.
While expressing pride in his support base, which delivered over 240,000 votes in Delta Central, Omo-Agege thanked his supporters and pledged continued service to the people.
Looking ahead, he urged party members to shift focus to future political goals, particularly the 2027 elections, and work collectively to strengthen the party.
“We must choose unity over division and victory over vendetta. Only a united APC can deliver Delta State and secure success for all our candidates in 2027,” he added.
