BYERA To Engage Stakeholders On Electricity Market Regulations

The Bayelsa State Electricity Regulatory Agency (BYERA) has scheduled a high-level stakeholders’ engagement to review its proposed Licence and Market Entry Regulations for the state’s electricity sector.

In a statement signed by the Director-General of BYERA, Dr. Rosalyn Dressman, and made available to newsmen in Yenagoa, the one-day meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall, Government House, Yenagoa.

The agency said the session aims to promote transparency, gather inputs, and strengthen regulatory standards as Bayelsa advances its power sector reforms.

According to the statement, the proposed regulations will provide clear guidelines for market entry and licensing processes.

Key stakeholders invited to the engagement include the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED), Bayelsa Electricity Company Ltd (BECL), Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), relevant state ministries, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE)/COREN, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), the Public Complaints Commission, traditional rulers, and other industry players.

Stakeholders seeking further information were advised to contact Dr. Cameron Waigha, Director of Market Analysis, Standards and Tariffs, through the agency’s designated channels.
