LG election to hold in Bauchi after 13 years, says Gov Mohammed

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has said local government election would hold in the state in the next six months after 13 years of not doing so.

Mohammed, who disclosed this at an interaction with newsmen at the Government House in Bauchi shortly after his victory at the Supreme Court on Tuesday night, said he would notify the Independent National Electoral Commission of the planned elections.

The governor said, “We have already laid down our agenda for the state in terms of developmental plans and we have our Executive Council in place. Next week, we will have a retreat with all our political appointees and we want to enshrine democracy.

“In the next four to six months, we will hold local government elections in the state so that the common man will be able to have a choice, and we will do that with minimal cost not in the way and many it was done in the past.

“We will do everything possible to make a difference. We will do everything possible to set a new epoch of doing things right,” the governor said, adding that the process is going to be transparent.

“Since the time of former Governor Isa Yuguda, that the last election held in 2007, there has not been any (LG) election.

“I thank God that he has brought me to this office and I will do everything within my power to conduct local government election, that is if the money will not be much, but if it will be much, I will take the money and renovate hospitals with it,” he stated.

Mohammed, who described his victory at the Supreme Court as the beginning of a new journey, added that “you can see me looking sober, I am burning inside with a sense of exhilaration. Yes, we have won at the Supreme Court but this is the beginning of another journey that we will be accountable for”.
