Road Safety: FRSC Radio begins broadcast next week.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), will next week in Abuja begin radio broadcasting to enlighten Nigerians on road safety tips ahead of the upcoming festive season.

The Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi stated this at a public hearing on a “Bill to amend the Federal Road Safety Commission Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004” organised by the House committee on Federal Road Safety Commission.

According to Boboye, the pilot Radio broadcasting, which will kick off first in Abuja in five languages aims at advocacy to eradicate road crashes among Nigerian road users.

The Corps Marshall added that the Corps will henceforth impose stiffer sanctions, including a minimum fine of N50,000 on road traffick offenders, to serve as deterrent to road users who are often caught violating the same rules on which they had previously being fined.

On his part, Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary, Anthonia Ekpa, says the Ministry is committed to making useful inputs into the improvement of road safety and management in Nigeria.

The Lawmakers stressed the need for improved road safety in Nigeria, necessary steps towards eradicating road crashes and saving lives; they also expressed hope on an amended FRSC Act which they say would guarantee a more effective and efficient Corps in line with current realities.
