Delta Govt reiterates commitment to children’s healthcare

The Delta Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Patrick Ukah, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment toward ensuring healthcare needs of children in schools.
Ukah gave the assurance while receiving Dr Jude Winful-Orieke, Executive Director of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, who paid him courtesy visit
in Asaba.
The commissioner said that the ministry collaborated with the agency to ensure that its healthcare delivery programmes were effectively carried out in the school system.
He urged the agency to always carry out timely enlightenment campaigns by informing all relevant stakeholders on the importance of its programmes.
According to him, the agency should be more proactive and strive to achieve its objectives.
In his remarks, Winful-Orieke
said that the visit was to seek ways of collaborating with the ministry to enhance healthcare needs of children in schools.
Winful-Orieke said there was need for children to imbibe the strategies of ensuring disease prevention and cultivate the habit of ceaseless hand washing.
He said that the agency was charged with the responsibilities of carrying out routine immunisation  of children, diagnose and treatment of ailments.
While calling for proper medical examination of children to get the baseline of their health status, he also appealed to the ministry to take the girl-child education seriously, especially as they grow into adolescent stage.
