A 29-year-old man, Vincent Okwose, on Tuesday appeared in an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, for allegedly locking up a woman in his apartment against her will.
The police charged Okwose, whose address was not provided, with three counts of deprivation of liberty, grievous harm and negligent act to cause harm to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecution counsel, Insp. John Iberedem, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 29 at about 9 p.m. at No,16 Is Agba str; Igbogbo area in Ikorodu Lagos state.
Iberedem alleged that the defendant locked up one Hadiza Haruna inside his apartment.
The prosecutor said that while attempting to escape, Haruna stepped on the toilet seat and it broke, injuring her on right foot.
Iberedem said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 272, 245 and 252 of Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Chief Magistrate F.A. Azeez admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Azeez adjourned the case until April 16 for mention.
