A 23-year-old man, Emmanuel Chihaka, was on Tuesday docked at a Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly breaking and entering into dwelling house and stealing property valued at N175,000.
Chihaka, whose address is unknown, is facing a two-count charge of breaking, and entering and stealing.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the offences.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 7, at about 12.05 a.m at No 39, Community Road, Oko-Afo bus stop, Lagos Badagry Expressway, Lagos.
Adeosun said that the defendant broke into the dwelling house of one Idayat Lawal.
“The defendant also stole one Samsung A-30 phone valued at N66,000, one I-Phone Six valued at N80,000, one Itel A-33 phone valued at N22,000 and one power bank valued at N7,000.
“The total sum of property stolen is N175,000.
“He was caught during the act and handed over to the police for prosecution,” said the prosecutor.
Adeosun said that the offences contravened Sections 305 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The Magistrate, Mr Segun Aka-Bashorun, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with two surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case till April 1, for mention.
