COVID-19: Jema’a LG Chair commends Gov. el-Rufai for pro-activeness

Mr Peter Averik, Chairman of Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has commended Gov. Nasir el-Rufai’s proactive response to the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In a statement signed by the Local Government’s Information Officer, Simeon Dauda, in Kafanchan on Tuesday, Averik said that the governor took measures to prevent the spread of the virus by shutting schools, campuses and banned all public gatherings of more than 50 people.

He said that although there was no reported case of the virus in Kaduna State yet, the measures put in place by the state government was necessary to prevent an outbreak.

According to him, the emphasis on prevention was the only logical thing to do as the healthcare system in the state may be overwhelmed by an outbreak of COVID-19.

He advised the people in the area to adhere to recommended hygiene instructions on frequent hand washing and use of hand sanitizer and guidelines on social distancing

“The restrictions on movement and observing good personal hygiene remain the best strategy for people to prevent themselves from getting infected with the deadly virus.

“We must all take precautionary measures as advised by medical experts seriously, especially regular washing of hands with soap, social distancing among other hygienic practices as prevention is better than cure,” Averik said.

He said that the strict precautionary strategies adopted by the government are not meant to inflict hardship on the people, rather to ensure public safety.

Averik pleaded with religious and traditional leaders to complement the efforts of the state government by sensitising the people at the grassroots on the virus and the need to comply with restriction directives.

The Chairman also called on the people of the Local Government to take to God in prayers for His intervention during these difficult times.

NAN reports that the Kaduna State Government have directed that civil servants from level 12 and below to remain at home for the next 30 days as part of measures to avert an outbreak of COVID-19 in the state.
