We are committed to our mandate – NSCDC boss

Commandant General, Nigeria Security, and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Abdullahi Gana Muhammed has stated the Corps commitment to carry out its mandate by protecting the critical infrastructures in the country, as well as continue to serve as the defender of the defenseless.

He made this known when he played host to students of Basic Intelligence Course 11/2018 of the Defence Intelligence College on study tour to the Corps Headquarters Abuja.

While briefing the students and the directing staff, Gana stressed on the core mandate of the Corps as protection of Critical Infrastructure and National Assets, Disaster Management and the repositioning of the Private Guards Industry in assisting to Police the Nation. He emphasized the issue of porous borders, the high level of drug intake by women and youths especially in the north and charged the students to be more proactive in tackling these issues as intelligence officers.

He re-echoed that NSCDC as a grass root organisation, has put in place a lot of mechanisms to checkmate insecurity in the country.

While eulogising the Chief of Naval Staff for his continuous assistance to the Corps by handing over of suspected vandals for prosecution, he noted that the Corps has set up Command and Control Centre to monitor the activities of vandals, oil thieves and illegal bunkering in the South-South and will replicate same for other zones especially the North-East to fight insurgency.

He informed the team of the commencement of the training of 5000 personnel designated for Agro-Rangers assignment in Katsina State for the protection of the proposed ranches and Agro-Allied investment.

Earlier in his remarks, Commandant of the College, Navy Commodore AM Ibrahim, said the visit was necessitated by the role and contributions of the Corps as a principal stakeholder to National Security, especially with regards to proffering solution to the various challenges such as kidnapping, illegal bunkering, vandalism, insurgency among others.

The visit, he noted was to avail the students the opportunity of knowing more about the mandate of the Corps, its activities and the application of unequaled strategy to combat security challenges in both short and long run.

The Commandant of the Defence Intelligence College pledged his readiness upon the request by NSCDC, of training of the Corps personnel on intelligence which is key to the success of any security operation.

In the same vein, while playing host to the Minister of Defence Mansur Dan-Ali’ representative Major Issa Abdulhamid Jawondo, yesterday, he charged members of the public, Private Individuals, Corporate Organisations amongst others, to always remember the gallant soldiers who put their lives on the line to defend the territorial integrity of the Nation.

He maintained that every citizen of this country, both old and youth, owe it as obligation to cater for the families these fallen heroes left behind and no amount can be too much for their welfare. He therefore gave assurance that the Corps at the Headquarters will support the cause of the Fallen Heroes and thereby give directives to the State Commandants to follow suit.
