Why Nigeria’s defence minister is crying

While Nigeria is the most populous nation in Africa, the country does not have enough manpower in terms of number of men and officers of its military to deal with internal security challenges facing her people.

The country’s minister of defence, Bashir Magashi, stated this, adding that the military is understaffed and underfunded to tackle the various security challenges facing the country.

The minister stated this on Wednesday, June 3, when he emerged from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

He said the challenges facing the military, including the inadequate funding for the ministry of defence among others were highlighted at the meeting, adding also that the members of the council made contributions to the discussion.

Magashi also stated that there will be a change in the conduct of affairs in the ministry of defence.
