Nasarawa: Alago nation holds carnival to promote own culture

By Peter Ahemba, Lafia

ALAGO ethnic nationality in Nasarawa has held its maiden cultural carnival, aimed at reviving the cultural heritage of their people.

National President, Alago Development Association, ADA, Mr. Aliyu Ari, while speaking during the event in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa state at the weekend, maintained that the event was part of efforts to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Alago people nationwide.

He regretted that westernisation was gradually forcing most cultures into extinction, noting that the cultural carnival will be organised annually as a deliberate strategy to revive the culture and traditions of the Alago as a nation.

“The Alago cultural carnival is going to be an annual event. It is part of efforts to showcase the culture and traditions of our people”

The National President called on the Alago people embrace one another in the interest of unity and peaceful co-existence, pointing out that there could be no development in an atmosphere of rancour and mutual suspicion.

Also speaking the President, youth wing of ADA, Barr. Iliya Ashokpa, explained that the the Alago youths under his leadership decided to organised the cultural carnival in collaboration with its mother body to promote peace and unity amongst the Alago people and their neighbours.

He called on the Alago youths to remain law-abiding, even as he urged them to remain focused and committed in the efforts to liberate the Alago nation.
