Adam Zango’s Genotype Explanation for Sixth Divorce Sparks Online Debate

Kannywood actor Adam Zango has generated widespread reactions after revealing that his marriage to his sixth wife, Maimuna Musa, popularly known as Maimuna Pretty, ended because they both have the AS genotype.

According to the actor, the couple mutually agreed to separate after discovering their genotype compatibility could increase the risk of having children with sickle cell disease. He said the decision was taken to avoid future health complications for their children.

To dispel rumours surrounding the separation, Zango shared a video of Maimuna leaving his home and maintained that the divorce was amicable, urging the public to avoid spreading false narratives.

However, his explanation has drawn criticism online. Kano-based TikTok personality G-Fresh Al-Amin questioned why genotype screening was not conducted before the marriage, noting that intending couples are generally encouraged to undergo comprehensive medical tests, including genotype screening.

Al-Amin and his wife also argued that the actor did not need to publicly disclose the reason for the divorce, saying the revelation had exposed him to unnecessary criticism.

Genotype compatibility is widely regarded as an important consideration before marriage in Nigeria. Health experts advise intending couples to undergo screening because when two people with the AS genotype have children, each pregnancy carries a 25 per cent chance of producing a child with sickle cell disease (SS), a 50 per cent chance of AS and a 25 per cent chance of AA.

Beyond his career in Kannywood, Zango has attracted public attention over the years for his marital history. Public records indicate that he has been married six times, with all six marriages ending in divorce. He is also reported to be the father of seven children.
