Governors of the insurgency ravaged Nigeria’s North East Region have appealed to the Federal Government to deploy State of the Art Military Hardware in the fight against terrorism aimed at addressing security challenges facing the sub region.
Rising from its one day dialogue in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, the Governors frowned at the security situation of the Region and urged the Government to bridge the gap that exists in the security architecture by involving the Police where necessary.
Host Governor and Chairman of the Forum, Prof Babagana Zulum who read the communique at the end of the one day summit, called on the Military to ensure safe access to farmlands to enable farmers return to their farms. The summit regrets that the situation threatens food security.
The Governors therefore resolved to foster regional integration, growth and development especially exploitation of oil and gas resources, mineral and agricultural potential of the region.
It decried the neglect of the region in roads infrastructure, calling for the revocation of Federal Roads awarded for years without commensurate progress.
The meeting has also resolved to support the North East Development Commission achieve its mandate.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, The Secretary to the State Government, Bashir Ahmad were at the head of the State delegation to the one day summit.
It will be the turn of Adamawa State to host the next meeting in November 2020.
