Gov. Sule flags off covid 19 palliatives to 13 local government areas in the state.

Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has flagged off the second phase of the distribution of various food items to the poor and vulnerable across the state, donated as palliative by the Coalition Against COVID-19 (COCAVID).Engineer Sule flagged off the distribution at a ceremony which held at the Government Warehouse, in Lafia, on Tuesday.

The Governor similarly directed that the food items be distributed across the 1, 495 polling units, to be shared among the poorest of the poor who have no source of income to take care of their daily needs, as part of the continued efforts by his administration to provide succour to vulnerable households.

Engineer Sule recalled that the state government recently received 35 trucks of essential commodities, mostly food items, from COCAVID, as part of its support to complement efforts of government in cushioning the effects of hunger following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.He warned that the palliative committee put in place at various levels by government to supervise the distribution, will be held responsible for any anomaly in the sharing of the food items.

The Governor used the opportunity to thank individuals and organizations, particularly the COCAVID, for their tremendous contributions towards fighting against the coronavirus.He was formally presented with the food items donated by the COCAVID by Alhaji Jamilu Gidado, a representative of the Dangote Group.

Earlier, in a welcome address, Secretary to Nasarawa State Government, Barrister Muhammad Ubandoma Aliyu, gave the run down of the food items donated by the COCAVID to include, 43, 246 cartons of indomie, 20, 590 cartons of macaroni and 21000 bags of rice.Others are, 18,000 bags of semolina, 24, 000 bags of sugar, 81 cartons of salt and 600 gallons of groundnut oil.The SNSG described the distribution of the palliative as timely, considering the economic hardship informed by the coronavirus pandemic.

He commended the Governor for not resting on his oars towards ensuring that the state benefits from further intervention from both the Federal government and other institutions, in line with the policy thrust of the administration to bring succour to the less privileged in the society.As part of the flagging off ceremony, a number of vulnerable persons were symbolically presented with food items.
