Ortom calls for unity in fight against killings, kidnappings

By Isaac Kertyo, Makurdi

Disturbed by the killings, kidnapping, banditry bedeviling the nation, Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has called on Nigerians to burry their differences and come together to surmount the security challenge confronting the nation.
This came on the heels of the call by the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) on the Federal Government and States in the northen region to take proactive steps to put an end to the wave of terrorism, banditry and kidnapping rocking the north.
Ortom who noted that there can be no meaningful development in an atmosphere of chaos, urged Nigerians to close remarks devoid of political affiliations for faster development of the country.
The governor made the call during a courtesy visit to him by the Federal Government’s Public Work Committee Members who are saddled with the responsibility of creating 774 000 jobs for the rural poor to ameliorate the hardship occasioned by Covid-19 pandemic.
“We need to come together to surmount the challenges confronting the nation to achieve set goals. In the game of politics there is no permanent enemy, what is permanent is the interest”, he asserted.
Ortom lauded the Federal Government for the gesture, adding that the programme would add value to the development of the state. He contended that the Covid-19 palliatives would take our youths off the streets.
The programme which is to last for 3 months in first instance, from October, 2020 to December, 2020 is for the rural poor and does not require skills or certificate.
The committee is to collaborate with the Benue State Government, Local Government Areas, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, among other stakeholders to ensure transparency.
