Adamawa: Civil Society group engaged Men on fighting against Gender Based Violence

Sultan Foundation for Peace and Development Adamawa State in conjunction with the Spotlight Initiative has organized  one-day seminar on gender based Violence to engage Men on fighting against SGVB.

Sultan Foundation for Peace and Development in Adamawa State is implementing a 4- year project title “Addressing Gender-Based Violence and Promotion of Response to Gender Equitable norms and response to SGBV/SRHR/HP in Nigeria”.

Dr. Ahmed Mustapha Ubandoma Adamawa and Program Officer in his welcome address said the project intends to identify and discuss the high prevalence of Violence against women and girls in the community as well as the challenges it has on the Society.
He stated that one of the steps taken towards eliminating Gender-Based Violence is gender share experience of handling, supporting, and counseling victims of SGBV Programs.

Dr. Bashir Imam, the speaker at the event, said traditional and Community leaders have a primary role in protect, promote, and preserve the right of women and girls in Nigeria.
Imam, who spoke extensively, identified ways of addressing Gender-Based Violence and harmful practices in the community.

Barr Fatima Bello Raji speaking on the Role of stakeholders/ Traditional leaders, private sector leaders progressive legislators, and politicians in mitigation and Support to Victims of Violence Against Women and Girls, urged the stakeholders to continue to speak against the sexually harmful practice in society.

She explained that the seminar will sensitize and raise awareness on the concept of gender response Violence against women and girls in the Community so that participants would carry out analysis on gender-based Violence and apply the tools appropriately.
