Association Hails Settlement Of 25 Years Herders/Egume Community Clashes

The National President of Egume-Ome  Descendants Union (EODU) in Dekina local government area of Kogi state, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim on Saturday in Lokoja hailed the end of 25 years Herders/Communal clashes within one year of his leadership.

Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim stated this while receiving Award of Leadership Excellence conferred on him by the Lokoja branch of the union over the weekend.

He affirmed that the lingering crisis which over the years had led to the loss of souls and property as well as underdevelopment in the area is now a thing of the past.

Ibrahim disclosed that as soon as he assumed office he constituted a-9-man committee which worked tirelessly to achieve the success story saying that peace and tranquility under his leadership has returned in Egume Community.

He said that his next battle is to compliment government’s efforts in the fight against kidnapping, robbery and other forms of crimes bedeviling the community.

He warned against youth restiveness and called on the future leaders not to relent in embarking on ventures that would make productive and useful citizens.

According the National President “My leadership will continue to initiate programmes and activities that would foster unity and bring massive development in Egume”

The Chairman of the Lokoja branch of the union, Mr. Noah Ocheni in his welcome address, maintained that Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim deserved the honour in view of his leadership quality and contributions towards the development of Egume community.

Ocheni enumerated the National President’s contributions to include payment of school fees of the 10 best students of Government Secondary School, Egume, provision of ICT Center, computers and calculators to facilitate effective teaching and learning in the institution.

A two time Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who hails from Egume in the Eastern Senatorial District of Kogi state,  Senator Nicholas Ugbane was also at the event honoured with a Distinguished Award while one Mr. Patrick Ogwu bagged  the Best Teacher of the year’s Award.

Responding on behalf of the recipients, Senator Nicholas Ugbane who was ably represented, by his personal assistant, Mr. Gabriel Edicha thanked the association for the recognition bestowed on them with assurance that the gesture will spur them to do more for their immediate community.
