Seven perish in A’Ibom road accident

No fewer than seven persons including school children have been confirmed dead at the failed portion of the Calabar-Itu road by Ntak Inyang in Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.

It was learnt one side of the dual carriage way was still under repairs, forcing motorists including tricycle and motorcycle operators to ply the free lane.

According to Etim Asuquo, a motorcyclist, the congestion on the free lane compacted the traffic leading to the accident as the fuel truck rammed into the approaching tricycle from the opposite direction resulting in the accident.

Confirming the incident, the State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. Ogah Ochi, said officers of the Command had since been drafted to the scene for effectively traffic regulation.

“We are aware of the incident and our men have been dispatched to the scene”, he said.
