Insecurity Has Affected Agricultural Production in Nigeria, Benue First Class Chief Laments

The First Class Chief in charge of Sankera comprising Katsina-Ala, Logo and Ukum local government areas of Benue State, Chief Abu King Shuluwa has disclosed that the insecurity currently rocking the nation has affected adversary the agricultural production in Nigeria.

Chief Shuluwa who was appointed Member, Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC, under Chief Olusegun Obasenjo’s administration between 1999 and 2003 made this disclosure in an interview in Makurdi.

He continued: ” Farmers are no longer going to farm. There is going to be hunger in the land. You can’t find cassava, guinea corn, millet among other crops. Everybody is on the run, there is insecurity everywhere.”

Chief Shuluwa maintained that the insecurity bedeviling the area can’t be tackled by Security Operatives alone, but by the people of Sankera themselves, adding that ” we will solve this problem in collaboration with Security Agents,” he said.

The Traditional Ruler harped that security agents can’t stamped out bandits within his domain except with the support of the Community Volunteer Guards who are conversant with the terrain. ” If you bring the Army, they don’t know the terrain, those people know.
