NUJ Applauds Gov Yahaya Bello For Development

From Noah Ocheni, Lokoja

The Chairman Kogi state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Comrade Adieza Momojimoh on Saturday applauded
kogi state government for it’s infrastructural development, especially in Lokoja town as shown through the Lokoja Civic center and Ganaja junction flyover which was described as legacy projects.

The resolution was contained in a communique issued at the maiden Congress of the Union in the year 2022 held at the press centre of the NUJ in Lokoja, Kogi state capital.

It also appreciated the government for ensuring the smooth take off of the Lokoja mega terminal which has moderized the transport system in the state.

The Congress equally stressed the need for government to urgently pay attention to some of the roads that are still in a bad state like Lokoja-Zango-Kabba junction road, zone eight round about to House of Assembly road as well as the Mount Patti road.

The communique called on the state government to as a matter of urgency do all within its reach to revive the state owned Radio (FM 94.1) which has gone off air for months, with a passionate appeal that government’s approval for the Radio is expendiciously followed with action and with similar attention to the Graphics Newspaper.

Congress also enjoined the government to provide alternative means of transportation for the populace before enforcing the order, banning Keke and motorcycle operators from the highways.

It pointed out that the council has resolved to comply with the national directive of the NLC over strike action on the non implementation of the new minimum wage.

It further disclosed that members of the Union would also participate in the proposed one day national protest called by the NLC over the planned increase in the price of petrol slated for Thursday, 27th January, 2022.

The Council according to the communique will, however await further directive of the NLC in the state after serving government due notice.

The Congress expressed appreciation to Governor Yahaya Bello and Kogi State Government for providing members of the Union a conducive atmosphere to operate. The Congress particularly thanked the Governor and a media aide for ensuring Christmas package for members.

The Communique stressed the need for more commitment on the part of members, which should, however, reflect in all activities of NUJ in Kogi State.

A vote of confidence was passed on the state Chairman of NUJ, Alhaji Adeiza Momohjimoh for transparent leadership.

A minute silence was, however, observed in honour of Mr. Semeon Ogwu, a staff of the NUJ secretariat and a former General Manager of Graphics Newspaper, Mr Fidel Egwuche who were called home late last year.
