Ruga settlement protest rocks Taraba

By Ismaila Ishiaku

Taraba youths have taken to the streets to protest the approval by the Federal Government to established Ruga settlement in some local government areas of the Taraba state.

The youths who are in their numbers lead by the Chairman National Youths Council Nigeria, NYCN, Comrade Udi Adamu came out on the street of Jalingo protesting what they call misplacement of priority in the face of poverty, insecurity, armed robbery, banditry and increased unemployment facing the society.

Some of the local government in Taraba state slated for Ruga settlement include Lau, Zing, Ibi and Sarduana local government respectively.

The Youths Chairman described the Ruga settlement scheme as a  threat to tribes in Taraba state and the Nation at large, “Fulani herdsmen troubling the state are with the ulterior motive to grab the lands of the original inhabitants”

Comrade Udi regretted that the Federal government kept saying that the settlement will mitigate kidnapping and killings by herdsmen and wonders why federal government allow Fulani to settled in States like Taraba, Benue, Oyo, Ebonyi and others ignoring core northern States like Katsina, Borno, Sokoto, Kebbi and others.

The Protesters who were seen with placards said they support the Taraba state government on the Ranching law which according to them is the best way to settling the crisis between herdsmen and farmers in the state.

The youths called on the Taraba state Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku, to enforce the Open grazing and Ranching established law 2017 for the sake of peace and harmonious living.

Comrade Udi Adamu appealed to youths in Taraba to remain law-abiding and support government genuine programs and policies that are geared to emancipating the people from the bondage of poverty and oppression.
