ASUU Strike: Emir Bayero Appeals for Calm as Students protest in Kano

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has stormed Kano State roads to protest against the ongoing nationwide strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The association that has frowned upon the incessant strike in the country is protesting to tell the world the situation they are facing in the country regarding their education.

The students who commenced their protest from Kofar Nassarawa bridge in Kano City to the Emir’s palace kicked against the continued strike, describing it as over delays in academics which is anti – education.

Singing solidarity songs against ASUU’s action with their hands clinking placards, the students said the menacing issue of the strike should by now be put to an end.

The students called the attention of federal government to intervene into their matters and negotiate with the lecturers to call off the strike.

They lamented that many of their colleagues have become drug addicts while some have become criminals.

Responding, the Emir of Kano, who received the students, said it is disheartening that the students are left idle.

He said he has spoken to both the Federal Government and the ASUU and advised them to resolve the matter amicably.

“I will send an emissary right away to get first hand information on what is happening now and I will do whatever it’s takes to make them see sense in resolving the matter”, the Emir assured.

Recall that the Vice President of the Union, Comrade Yazid Tanko Muhammad, disclosed their intention to protest on Monday.

Comrade Yazid added, “So, it is a protest which, if we start, will not stop until the issues are resolved, and the lecturers resume work.
