The State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Chief Johnson Onuigbo is dead.
The Ibeku-born amiable politician, according to sources close to the family, died on Monday night.
The cause of his death is yet to be ascertained.
A former local government chairman of Umuahia North, Onuigbo who is popularly known as Akinbod, became the chairman of Abia PDP in May 2016 and led the party to several electoral victories.
On May 14, 2020, he was made the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee charged with running the affairs of the party for three months, following the expiration of his tenure as elected chairman.
Onuigbo elongates the list of prominent sons of Ibeku Clan in Umuahia, Abia State who have died in the last one month, his demise coming after that of Prof. Augustine Mbanaso, a first class medical expert, Eze Dan Egbeogu, a former lawmaker and traditional ruler of Okwuta Ibeku, as well as Deacon Sam Odoemelam who rose to the rank of Permanent Secretary in the Abia State Civil Service.
Onuigbo, until his unfortunate death, was also a member of the Knight of St Christopher, Umuahia Diocese, Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion.
