AFAN National President Predicts Brighter Future for Nigeria’s Agricultural Sector

By Jabiru Hassan

The National President of the All Farmers’ Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Honourable Mohammed Magaji Gettado, has expressed optimism about the future of Nigeria’s agricultural sector under the current federal administration, citing renewed policy focus and institutional collaboration.

Speaking in an interview with our correspondent, Gettado said his leadership would prioritize strategic partnerships between AFAN and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to strengthen farmers’ access to modern technology, inputs, and capacity-building opportunities across the country.According to him, the goal is to reposition agriculture as a profitable and sustainable enterprise by equipping farmers with tools and innovations that improve productivity, efficiency, and overall yields. He noted that technology-driven farming remains critical to achieving food security and economic growth.“

We came on board to bring more succour to Nigerian farming communities so they can benefit from modern technology capable of transforming their seasonal activities without bias. By the special grace of God, our mission will be accomplished,” Gettado said. The AFAN president explained that the association’s new leadership intends to ensure that support for farmers is inclusive and reaches all categories of producers, from smallholder farmers to larger-scale operators. He stressed that equitable access to subsidized inputs and technical support would remain a core priority.Gettado further stated that the impact of the association’s leadership would be visible at all levels, as AFAN works to align its programmes with government initiatives aimed at revitalizing Nigeria’s agricultural sector. He praised the present administration for what he described as deliberate efforts to safeguard and strengthen agriculture since assuming office. He added that farmers deserve consistent policy support, particularly in areas such as access to quality seeds, fertilizers, mechanization, and extension services, noting that these elements are essential for improving livelihoods and boosting national food production.Beyond crop farming, the AFAN president emphasized the importance of year-round agricultural activities, including dry-season farming, to reduce dependence on rain-fed agriculture and mitigate the effects of climate variability. In his message to AFAN members nationwide, Gettado urged unity and patience, assuring them that the association remains committed to protecting their interests and promoting farming as a viable and profitable occupation.“AFAN remains fully committed to the progress of its members and to promoting profitable farming during both the dry and rainy seasons,” he said.He reaffirmed that sustained collaboration with relevant government agencies and stakeholders would be key to unlocking the full potential of Nigeria’s agricultural sector and ensuring long-term benefits for farmers and the wider economy.
