Former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Silas Ali Agara, has said there is no established zoning arrangement for the 2027 governorship election in the state.Agara made the statement in Akwanga during a solidarity visit by members of the Mada Youth Association, who gathered to support his bid for the upcoming Nasarawa North senatorial by-election.
The former deputy governor, who recently resigned as Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), said discussions about zoning for either the governorship or senatorial seats have not been formally agreed upon.
“As far as some of us are concerned, there is no zoning in Nasarawa State. Since 1999, candidates from different senatorial districts have contested governorship elections,” he said. Agara expressed confidence that Nasarawa North has the capacity to produce the next governor, noting that stakeholders in the zone are engaging in consultations ahead of the election.
He also stated that no final decision has been reached within the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding the forthcoming senatorial by-election, adding that consultations are ongoing across communities in the district.
Agara said he is seeking the Senate seat to continue projects initiated by the late Senator Godiya Akwashiki. Leaders of the Mada Youth Association, including Augustine Gyobe and Samson Bala, pledged support for his aspiration, describing him as experienced and capable of representing the district.
