Ahead of 2027: APC Spokesman Cautions Against Division, Commends Ex-IGP Adamu’s Grassroots Engagement

By Leo Zwanke, Lafia

The National Chairman of the Conference of APC Publicity Secretaries and Nasarawa State APC Publicity Secretary, High Chief Otaru Douglas, has commended former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Abubakar Adamu for his ongoing grassroots engagement with party executives across Nasarawa State.

Chief Otaru described the former IGP’s outreach as a “novel democratic approach” to stakeholder engagement, noting that such interactions have long been neglected within party structures.

Speaking during a consultative meeting in Karu Local Government Area on Sunday, Otaru said Adamu’s visits to various local government areas to interface with APC executives would strengthen party unity, revive grassroots participation, and enhance the party’s visibility ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He commended Governor Abdullahi A. Sule, the leader of the APC in Nasarawa State, for allowing democratic consultations despite growing political tension in the build-up to 2027.

“Although the ban on campaign activities has not been lifted, aspirants are only permitted to consult with stakeholders and party leaders in a civil and democratic manner,” Otaru stated.

The APC spokesman, however, cautioned against rising verbal and social media attacks among party members, warning that such actions could harm the party’s image and cohesion.

“I want to appeal to our political gladiators and their supporters at all levels to apply wisdom, decorum, and civility in addressing our internal differences. We are members of one family, and our differences should be handled internally if we must succeed as a party,” he said.

Otaru urged members to refrain from making public statements or court filings against fellow party members, stressing the need to strengthen the party’s internal conflict resolution mechanisms.

“It is not right for us as the ruling party to set a bad democratic precedent. We must emulate the leadership style of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Abdullahi Sule, who are working tirelessly to improve governance and party unity,” he added.

Meanwhile, former IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, during his consultative meeting with APC stakeholders and executives from various wards in Karu, urged politicians to ensure that citizens feel the true benefits of democracy.

Adamu, who is also a governorship aspirant under the APC in Nasarawa State, lamented the neglect of party executives and supporters after elections, emphasizing that inclusivity and welfare should be central to the party’s operations.

He pledged to review the welfare conditions of party members and improve political infrastructure across the state if elected, assuring that his visit was not for campaign purposes but for consultation and dialogue.

“I am not here to campaign but to interface with our people and appeal for restraint as we approach 2027,” Adamu said.
