Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner of Police, Amiengheme Andrew has assured residents of the state of professionalism of the Police Command in the official discharge of their duties.
Andrew made the pledge while clearing the air on a re-circulated video captioned “Akwa Ibom Elders are out for President Muhammadu Buhari” which showed Governor Udom Emmanuel questioning the sincerity of the Police in dealing with security matters in the state.
In a release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko MacDon and made available to newsmen in Uyo on Tuesday, the comand declared the re-circulating the old video as handiwork of a misguided mischief maker.
It added that the said statement by the governor was made in 2019 during the infamous House of Assembly crisis, prior to the 2019 general elections and has nothing to do with Andrew who was not the state commmissioner of Police in the state then.
“The attention of the Commissioner of Police Akwa Ibom State, CP AMIENGHEME ANDREW, has been drawn to a re-circulated online press briefing by His Excellency, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State with the above title which is now trending, hence, necessitating this rejoinder.
“The re-circulated video is the handiwork of a misguided mischief maker, who videoshoped and added the video to make it look like a recent happening with the aim of achieving an ulterior motive. This situation is being addressed by the Force.
“The Command is inundated of the said video as relating to the present Commissioner of Police, hence, the need to clear the air.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the said press briefing was done by His Excellency in 2019, during the House of Assembly crisis and prior to the 2019 general elections. It has nothing to do with CP Amiengheme Andrew who was only recently deployed to the State.
“The Command therefore wishes to assure the good people of the State that it will continue to serve them professionally and with the fear of God”. The statement said.
