A’Ibom pays One Billion Naira to 335 retired primary school teachers

Akwa Ibom State Government has paid the sum of One Billion Naira as entitlements to 335 retired primary school teachers, their next-of-kin and the vulnerables.

State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong told Correspondents at the end of the State Executive Council meeting yesterday in Uyo that the beneficiaries include123 living and retired teachers, 180 next of kin of retired teachers and 32 vulnerable persons.

‘’The report on the payment of entitlements to primary school teachers and next-of-kin was presented by Head of the Civil Service and he reported that the State Government has allocated N1 billion and it had been paid to the beneficiaries.

“Their include the living and retired people in 2011 category 123 of them, next-of-kin of 2007, 180 persons and the vulnerable consisting 32 persons and advocated for more interventions of such considering the very judicious use of the N1 billion that was allocated by government.” Ememobong explained.

The commissioner further stated that the State Executive Council has also directed the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Information & Strategy to issue public service announcements on the resurgence of COVID-19 in the state.

The directive according to him is to create public awareness for the citizenry to take necessary action to curtail the spread of the disease.

Ememobong noted that the Council received a report on the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Center, Ikot Ada Idem from the Ministry of Labour And Manpower Development, where he said that work has reached advanced stage.

He said that in a bid to attain food security and sufficiency, cassava planting would be increased by additional 2,000 hectares, so as to help reduce the cost of garri and other derivatives from cassava.

He added that Commissioners and Special Advisers were urged to complete projects adding that the Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper produced by the Ministry of Economic Development was also approved by Council.
