Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed empathy for every Nigerian facing economic hardship during a speech welcoming lawmakers back from an eight-week recess. He emphasized the urgent need for compassion and action to address the challenges citizens are experiencing.

Despite recent reports from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) indicating a slight easing of inflation over the past two quarters, many Nigerians continue to struggle with soaring living costs and an unpredictable market. “In the face of rising economic pressures, our fellow citizens have been grappling with the harsh realities of inflation and soaring living costs,” Akpabio stated.

He acknowledged that these economic challenges have tested the very fabric of society. “Your struggles are not lost on us; it is our sacred duty, as your earnest representatives, to respond with urgency and compassion,” he said.

Akpabio noted that while the country faces significant challenges, the administration of President Bola Tinubu has made strides in various sectors, particularly in agriculture and infrastructure development. “Our agricultural initiatives are beginning to bear fruit, and the strides made in infrastructure development are paving the way for a brighter future,” he remarked.

However, he stressed that these achievements should not overshadow pressing issues, particularly national security. “The recent surge in insecurity, particularly in various regions, is a clarion call for us to double our efforts in crafting laws and taking decisive actions to safeguard our communities,” he added.

Akpabio concluded by highlighting the need for policies that promote economic stability, enhance security, and foster social justice for all Nigerians.
