Akpabio Refutes Claims Senate Embarrassed Senator Musa During Plenary

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has dismissed reports circulating on social media and blogs that claimed Senator Sani Musa was “rubbished” during a recent plenary session for allegedly failing to define the term “harmonised.”

In a statement issued Friday in Abuja, Akpabio described the reports as false and misleading, stressing that no such incident occurred on the Senate floor.

He clarified that when Senator Musa was called to speak, a point of order was raised by Senator Abdul Ningi, which required procedural attention under Senate rules. The session, Akpabio noted, continued without any disruption, embarrassment, or breach of decorum involving Senator Musa.

Akpabio went on to commend Senator Musa’s contributions as Chairman of the Joint Committee on Finance and Chairman of the Conference Committee that harmonised the Tax Reform Bills—a legislative feat widely acknowledged by both chambers and key stakeholders.

Reaffirming the Senate’s commitment to order, integrity, and mutual respect, Akpabio urged the media to practice responsible journalism and ensure accuracy in reporting matters concerning the National Assembly.

He cautioned against sensationalism, emphasizing the importance of truth in preserving public trust in democratic institutions.
