Akwa Ibom Couple Arrested for Faking Kidnapping Incident

The Akwa Ibom Police Command has apprehended a suspect, Imaobong Sampson, and her boyfriend, Beltus Ebong, for orchestrating a fake kidnapping scenario in Mbierebe Obio village, Ibesikpo Asutan Area of the state.

According to Odiko Macdon, the spokesperson for the state police command, the suspects were captured in their hideout by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad following a report of kidnapping filed by a supposed relative last week Monday.

Macdon stated, “On 11/3/2024 at about 10:00hrs, a report was received from one Enobong Sampson ‘F’ of Nung Oku Village in Ibesikpo Asutan L.G.A that her sister, one Imaobong Francis Sampson, was kidnapped and that the kidnappers were demanding for a ransom of four million naira.”

He further explained that an intensive investigation led to the arrest of the purported victim, Imaobong Sampson, and her boyfriend, Beltus Ebong, at their hideout in Mbierebe Obio Village.

Imaobong confessed to staging the kidnapping in collaboration with her boyfriend and others to extort money from her aunt based abroad.

This incident echoes a similar case where the Ogun State Police Command recently apprehended an individual who faked his own abduction over a debt dispute.
