The Secretary General of the Interim Management Committee of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Mohammed Abubakar, has lauded the leadership of Hon. Engr. Bello Lawal, following the recently concluded National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Katsina.
In a statement released after the meeting, Abubakar expressed his appreciation for the progress achieved under Hon. Lawal’s stewardship, noting that his leadership has fostered peace and unity within the association.
“I commend and encourage the Hon. Lawal-led ALGON for successfully organizing the NEC meeting in Katsina. His leadership has brought about absolute peace and united ALGON,” Abubakar said.
The Secretary General pledged his unwavering support for Hon. Lawal and his initiatives, particularly his decision to work with the newly adopted Director General, a move that was endorsed by the NEC.
“This leadership direction, especially the adoption of the current Director General by the NEC, leaves me no other option than to relinquish my position as the IMC Secretary General for the greater interest of local government areas across Nigeria,” Abubakar declared.
He emphasized his readiness to support ALGON’s leadership in any capacity, highlighting his commitment to advancing the interests of local government areas nationwide.
“I remain fully available to assist in whatever way the leadership deems fit to engage me. My focus is on ensuring the development and unity of our local government areas under the able leadership of Hon. Lawal,” he added.
Abubakar’s statement reflects the growing consensus within ALGON about the importance of collaboration and effective leadership in strengthening the association’s role in local governance.
The NEC meeting in Katsina marks a significant milestone for ALGON as it continues to address key issues affecting local governments across the country. Under Hon. Lawal’s leadership, the association appears poised to consolidate its efforts toward achieving sustainable development and improved governance at the grassroots level.
