Manchester United are preparing for a significant squad shake-up this summer, with several players potentially heading for the exit as the season nears its conclusion.
Following their crucial victory over Liverpool to secure Champions League qualification, attention at Old Trafford is now turning firmly towards rebuilding the squad. With uncertainty still surrounding manager Michael Carrick’s future, a number of players appear increasingly likely to move on.
With just three matches remaining, some may have already played their final game in a United shirt. The upcoming transfer window is expected to provide an opportunity for fringe players to seek fresh starts elsewhere, as the club looks to bring in new talent.
Here’s a look at nine players who could leave Manchester United this summer:
Marcus Rashford
Rashford has been heavily linked with a permanent move to Barcelona after joining the Spanish club on loan last year. The Catalan side reportedly have the option to sign him for around £26 million, and the forward has made no secret of his desire to remain at Camp Nou.
If Barcelona decide against completing the deal, there will be no shortage of suitors for the England international, who has contributed 13 goals and 14 assists during his loan spell. A return to United is possible, but a permanent departure now seems highly likely.
Manuel Ugarte
Since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024, Ugarte has struggled to meet expectations. Tipped as a long-term successor to Casemiro, the midfielder has failed to find consistency in the Premier League.
Linked with a move to AC Milan, Ugarte has started just eight league matches this season. A transfer away from Old Trafford could help him rediscover his best form.
Joshua Zirkzee
Zirkzee has found it difficult to establish himself as a regular starter, scoring just nine goals in 72 appearances. The Dutch forward has slipped down the pecking order and continues to struggle for game time under Carrick.
Interest in him remains, particularly from Italy, where a return could offer him a chance to revive his career.
Altay Bayindir
Bayindir’s hopes of becoming United’s first-choice goalkeeper have taken a hit following the arrival and impressive performances of Senne Lammens.
The Turkish goalkeeper has not featured since Lammens joined from Royal Antwerp, and he may now seek regular football elsewhere.
Rasmus Højlund
Højlund is expected to leave permanently after joining Napoli on loan. The Italian side are obligated to sign him for £38 million if they qualify for the Champions League—a scenario that now looks almost certain.
The Danish striker has scored 14 goals this season and appears set to continue his career in Serie A.
Jadon Sancho
Sancho’s United career has never fully taken off since his high-profile move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021. Currently on loan at Aston Villa—his third loan spell—he is expected to leave permanently this summer.
A return to Dortmund has been suggested, where he previously enjoyed his best form.
Andre Onana
Once United’s first-choice goalkeeper, Onana now faces an uncertain future after being displaced by Lammens. He has impressed on loan at Trabzonspor, which could attract interest from other clubs.
Given his experience at Ajax and Inter Milan, the Cameroonian is unlikely to be short of options.
Tyrell Malacia
Malacia is set to depart when his contract expires this summer. Injuries and limited opportunities have restricted him to just two appearances this season.
Tom Heaton
Veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton is also nearing the end of his United career. The 40-year-old, who returned to the club in 2021, has largely served as third-choice and last featured in February 2023.
